Violent attack, sometimes attributed to Melanchthon, against the "Augsburg Interim", an imperial decree ordered on 15 May 1548 at the 1548 Diet of Augsburg by Charles V after he defeated the forces of the Protestant Schmalkaldic League. This decree became known as an "Interim" because it was intended to govern the church temporarily pending the conclusions of the Council of Trent. The "Augsburg Interim" was rejected by a significant number of Lutheran pastors and theologians.
