Lot description

2 parts in 1 vol., 16mo: [32]-494-[2], 342-[42] pp. (sl. toned, upper margin cut, an occ. leaf corner missing, spotted).

19th-c. vellum, gilt ruled covers and spine, gilt edges.

Paris re-issue of the 1546 Stephanus Greek New Testament by his son Robert Estienne II (1530-1570) who had his own printing shop in Paris where he earned the title of Typographus Regius. Almost identical to the 1546 ed., with five textual variants only. Typographically interesting because of the use of a slightly reduced version of the smallest font of the Royal Greek types for the text, and an exceedingly minute Greek type for the table of chapters. With both Estienne's pressmarks on the title pages.
Ref. Renouard, Estienne, p. 166. - Schreiber 239. - Darlow/Moule 4633. - Adams B-1670. - Bibles Paris 3694. - USTC 140655.
Prov. Mod. libr. label.
