Titian and his mistress.

Etching and engraving, 30,2 x 23,3 cm, laid paper with partial watermark, signed in plate "Ant. van Dyck / Titian Inventor" (trimmed to the platemark, some minor stains in lower margin).

Van Dyck had a large admiration for the work of Titian, and made several sketches of this original painting by Titian in the Villa Borghese. He later captured this in a stunning etching, wich was finished by Lucas Vorsterman. The print was dedicated "in love and friendship" to the artist Lucas van Uffel (1583-1637). A very good and dark impression of the 4th state (of 7).
