Lot description
Drawing, graphite, black chalk and watercolour, 22,5 x 17 cm, brown paper, signed and dated in pencil at lower right corner "Hte. Bellangé" (sl. dampstain above man's head).
Under passe-partout and wooden, gilt frame (not studied outside frame).
Bellangé (1800-1866) was a pupil of Gros. Although today primarily known for his (Napoleonic) battle scenes, he was much loved by contemporary collectors for comical and intimate interior scenes such as this one.
