Lot description

12mo: [12]-295-[4-1 bl.] ff. (sm. blank piece of fore-edge margin f. 133 torn off).

Contemp. gilt blind-ruled calf, covers with blind-ruled border and central frame with gilt corner pieces and central ornament, gilt spine with 4 raised bands (rubbed, head def.). Good copy.

Rare Antwerp ed. of the "Regimen sanitatis", a popular medieval work on health care, edited by the celebrated Catalan physician, Arnaldus of Villanova (1240-1311). This book of advice from the Schola Medica Salernitana on living a healthy life was the most popular medical book of the 15th c. The present Antwerp ed. with additions by the Erfurt physician J. Curio (d. 1561) and Johann Winter from Andernach (1505-1574). The book was also issued by J. Bellerus (BT 8134).
