1st Baron of Cortesheim (in Dutch Kortessem, near Hasselt), G. de Lamboy was born into an old noble Liège family. He became "Freiherr" in 1634, imperial Count in 1649, and was Field Marshal and General during the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648). His brother George fought with him as Rittmeister (cavalry captain).
