Contemp. calf, gilt ruled border on covers (upper corners sl. def.), gilt orn. spine with 5 raised bands (joints splitting, def. at head and tail), mod. endpapers.
First edition (?). Fully engraved by Henry Roberts with an allegorical front. and on each (!) page an engraved illustrated headpiece. A collection of songs mostly for high voice or 2 voices and continuo (partially figured bass); version for flute (i.e. recorder) at the end of each song."Calliope" was originally published between 1737 and 1746 in instalments of 8 pp. each. "Vol. the first" was completed by 1739; vol. 2 (here not present) was begun in the same year and probably not completed until 1746. With note to the subscribers. Most copies are, due to the publishing process, incomplete.
