Red half-percaline (spines faded).

Rare collection, complete from 1870 to the latest bulletin issued in 1905, of this publication started in 1865 by the organ of the "Cercle d'arboriculture de Belgique - Boomteeltkundige kring van België", founded in Ghent in 1864. The first name of this society was "Cercle professoral pour le progrès de l'arboriculture en Belgique". Ill. (list of plates attached) with 398 beautiful plates of fruits (apples, pears, grapes, peaches, strawberries, cherries, plums, lemons, melons, etc.) sketched and chromolithographed by P. De Pannemaeker, professor of sketching and flower painting at the State Horticulture and Agriculture School of Ghent (see note vol. 1897, pp. 241-248), 34 portraits (1 missing in vol. 1871: J.-B. Van Mons) and 24 pl. such as maps, plans, monuments and various views in black, and numerous figures in text. From 1871, the "Bulletins" are accompanied by a supplement on the flower garden and vegetable garden. The coloured pl. were published only from the year 1872. An additional folding leaf, illustrated, announcing a "Grande fête des fleurs" at Roubaix, is joint as a "Supplément" in vol. 1887. The periodical was edited by Frederic Burvenich, Edouard Pynaert, Emile Rodigas, Hubert and Jean Van Hulle, all professors at the School of Horticulture of the State at Ghent. In 1873, to promote fruits and vegetables, the circle organised pomological exhibitions in Ghent and also distributed seeds, seedlings and grafts. It aimed also to spread education in schools and created a contest for the best vegetable gardening treaty. The society was active until 1905. Table of pl. and figures at the end of each year; general table of contents from 1872-1896, bound separately.
