Engr., 56,5 x 90,5 cm, hand-coloured, mounted on cloth.

Framed.

Detailed plan of Brussels engraved by Louis-André Dupuis for Ferraris' "Carte marchande". This was the smaller scaled commercial edition of the manucript Cabinet Map made for the Austrian government and presented to Joseph II on 10 December 1777. Based upon the detailed topographical survey executed by artillerists between 1771 and 1777, the Cabinet map covers most of the current territory of Belgium. As a consequence, the printed "Carte marchande" was extensively used by the national mapping agency. Our copy is in the 3rd state, without the statue of Charles-Alexander of Lorraine on the Place Royale and without the metric scale added by the French in 1807. The map includes the Place Royale and the Brussels Park, built between 1775 and 1782, where Ferraris was building his own residence.
