2. "Island" (title on text leaf: Hondius his map of Island). Engr., 19 x 28 cm, coloured. Framed. London, W. Stansby for H. Fetherstone, 1625. Hondius' map of Island reissued here on a text leaf from the third part of "Hakluytus Posthumus or, Purchas his Pilgrimes" (London, 1625). Samuel Purchas (1577-1626) added the narratives from sailors who returned to England from their voyages to a vast compilation of unsorted manuscripts, which were left to him by Richard Hakluyt who had died in 1616. His travel stories are thus considered a continuation of Richard Hakluyt's "Principal Navigations".
