Comprising 9 engraved sheets (plate sizes 46,5 x 53 cm), assembled to a large wall map of about 139 x 159 cm, partially coloured (repaired, some oxidation, sl. browned).
Mounted on cloth and wooden sticks.
Magnificent large 9-sheet wall map of Zeeland at a scale of about 1:42.000, first published, in 1655, by Nicolaes Visscher I (1618-1679) together with the Middelburg bookseller and publisher Zacharias Roman (1595-ca.1675). The Ottens firm obtained the copper plates between 1719 and 1725. Reinier Ottens (1698-1750) revised the plates shortly after. The maps were reprinted a second time, without revision, in 1747. The number of assembled maps is limited, making it difficult to reconstruct their publishing and different editions. For each assembled map, different states of the map sheets were used. Our copy does not have the decorative border and the 14 town views.
