De Nationale Maatschappij van Buurtspoorwegen or Société Nationale des Chemins de fer vicinaux were a system of narrow-gauge tramways or local railways in Belgium, which covered the whole country and had a greater route length than the mainline railway system. The creation of the company was the result of legislation allowing the construction of rural tramways approved in 1875, followed by a new law in 1885. Apart from the chapter on the Province of Antwerp, all the other chapters in our copy come with descriptions in French. Illustrated with 9 maps showing for each province the railway lines under construction, the lines projected and the prospective lines. Very rare, probably printed only on a small number of copies.
