Second edition published in the same year as the first. Following on "Leçons de physique expérimentales", this practical treatise deals with the materials used for the manufacturing of scientific instruments (wood, metals, glass). Together with guidelines on their use and on the experiments during which they were used. Complete with 56 engr. pl. mainly illustrating scientific instruments including some Réaumur thermometers. Vol. 1 contains a section on the making of drugs with illustrations and sections on glassmaking and metals. Nollet held lectures aimed at popularising physics with the use of instruments. These lectures continued to inspire self-taught scientists throughout the 19th century.
