Very rare pocket atlas, only mentioned by van der Krogt in a later addition to his 3rd vol. of Koeman's Atlantes Neerlandici. Koeman specified earlier that about the year 1740 at least ten different pocket atlases published by Covens and Mortier were circulating, but most of these disappeared. We're probably dealing with a copy comparable to the "Atlasjes [...] kleinder om in de zak te dragen," more specifically that "van de vier gedeelten der weereld in 50 kaarten, afgezet Amsterdam J. Covens en C. Mortier" and mentioned by Abkoude. The maps, all numbered and included in the "Table des Cartes" pasted on the verso of the title, come from Pieter van der Aa's "Nouveau Petit Atlas" published in Leiden in 1714. Also the table of contents is cut from the title page of the "Nouveau Petit Atlas". Besides country and regional maps, also shown are a world map, a map of the Arctic and 4 continental maps. In fact, all maps match the complete 1st vol. of Pieter van der Aa's atlas in 9 parts, except that a map of Sweden and Norway from the 2nd part is added as pl.6* and one of Mecklenburg from the 3rd part as pl. 9*. Van der Aa reworked the copper plates from Janssonius' "Atlas minor" for his publication. Another copy of this work is present in the University of Aberdeen and in the Birmington Public Library.
