8vo: [8]-298-[14] pp. (large tear pl. 31 underlaid, some sm. tears in pl.; some spotting or browning).
Contemp. quarter calf (rubbed, corners bumped), gilt spine with 5 raised bands (rubbed, joints rubbed, front joint starting to split, head & tail def.), black leather title label. Good uncut copy with large margins.
Rare second ed. (1st 1735) of this description of the Polish town of Danzig, member of the Hanseatic League and in the 16th & 17th c. called "The Queen of the Baltic Sea". Ill. with 50 engr. folding plates (the last 2 not mentioned in the list at the end), showing the principal military, civil, manufacturing, social and ecclesiastical buildings of the city, a commemorative medaillon, two fighting eagles, large arms of the city, a view of the city during the bombardment in 1734, ... The text of J.L. Schuer (1698-before 1740) is largely based on the work of G.R. Curicken "Der Stadt Dantzig historische Beschreibung" (Amst. & Danzig, J. & G. Janssonius van Waesberge, 1688), from where also the plates were copied. Title in red and black.
