First French edition translated from the Spanish (first 1687) of this architectural treatise by the Spanish military mathematician and engineer Fernandez de Medrano (1646-1705). Ill. with an engr. front. showing Pallas and Mars offering the book to Joseph Ferdinand, Elector of Bavaria, represented as a child warrior with all the symbols of power and 33 (of 35) fold. pl. The work is a practical one-volume manual with several points made clearer and easier to use than the original Spanish two-volume edition.
