Large folio (47,5 x 32 cm): [6]-100-[1] ff.; 100 pl. protected with tissue guards (occ. spotting on text ff., scarcely affecting the margins of the pl.).
Contemp. half marbled sheep, marbled paper boards, flat spine (spine sl. rubbed, corners bumped).
First edition of the description of the rare and exotic plants in the botanical garden of Jacques Martin Cels (1740-1806), French horticulturist, in Montrouge by one of the leading botanists of its time, Ventenat (1757-1808). Complete with 100 numbered plates, most of the ill. engraved after drawings by the renowned flower painter Pierre-Joseph Redouté, but also some after his brother Henri-Joseph, Maréchal, Sauvage, Cloquet and Laneau. Large paper copy on "papier vélin".
