Contemp. calf, gilt-ruled covers with a double-fillet and one roll, gilt-orn. spines with raised bands, red edges (sm. stains, some heads and one tail repaired, sl. rubbed).
First edition of this architectural work, dedicated to geometry and trigonometry, by the French engineer and cartographer Manesson-Mallet (1630-1706). Abundantly ill. with a portrait of Louis XIV, a portrait of the author and 495 copper-engr. full-pages depicting instruments, castles (Versailles, Fontainebleau, Vincennes, Chantilly, etc.) and monuments (Notre-Dame, Leaning tower of Pisa, etc.) but also sm. maps, used to illustrate the concrete notions of the science.
