2 vol., 8vo; 6 pl. (text n.c.; foxing, sometimes extensive).
Contemp. green leather with corners, marbled paper boards, gilt-orn. spines with raised bands, marbled edges (spines faded, occ. rubbing).
First edition of the translation by the journalist Chaalons d'Argé (1798-1869), corrected and augmented, of one of the first important works on Burma. Illustrated with a fold. map and 5 hand-coloured coloured lithographs (one fold.). Cox (1760-1799) was an officer of the East India Company and Governor of Bengal. He was in charge to find a solution in the conflict between Arakan refugees and local Rakhains and to rehabilit the refugees in the area, for which he made a significant progress, before a premature death took him. His journal was only published by his son in 1821.
