3 vol., 8vo: front.-[2]-xxxii-191, front.-[2]-264, 2 front.-[2]-327-[1] pp.; 17 (of 18) pl. (soiled, spotting, marg. damp stains in vol. I-II, one fold strengthened to 1st pl. vol. I, last quire of vol. I browned, upper corners missing to last ff. of vol. III).
Contemp. half sheep, blue paper boards, gilt-ruled flat spines (rubbed, most heads and tails repaired, tail of vol. II missing).
Report of Levaillant's second expedition (1st Paris, 1795). This voyage brought him to Namaqualand, Damaraland, Bechcuanaland and the Kalahari Desert. Illustrated with 21 (of 22) plates (4 fold. and some placed as front.) depicting several peculiar or newly discovered animals and plants, such as the giraffe, two amazing heads of a hippopotamus, local people and some landscape views.
