Contemp. mottled calf, gilt-orn. spines with raised bands, red edges (rubbed corners, joints starting to split, def. to tail of 1st vol.).
First French ed. (1st German 1746) of this exploratory voyage by the German lawyer, naturalist and mayor of Hamburg J. Anderson (1674-1743). Ill. with an engr. front. by J. Flipart, fold. map and 7 fold. pl. Anderson did not travel to Greenland and Iceland himself but collected testimonies from the many sailors and ship captains passing through Hamburg on their way back or forth to the Polar regions. Containing observations on fauna, flora and topography. With a small dictionary and some principles on the grammar and vocabulary used by the Inuit of Greenand.
