Contemp. quarter sheep, mottled paper boards, gilt-orn. spines with raised bands, red edges (heads and tails sl. rubbed, boards sl. rubbed, front joint of vol. 2 sl. damaged).
Second French translation of this uncommon travelogue (1st 1699) of the Italian adventurer Gemelli Careri (1651-1725) who was among the first Europeans to tour the world. In six parts he describes his travels through Turkey, Persia, Hindustan, China, the Philippines and "New Spain". Ill. with a front. in vol. 1, a portrait of the author and 54 pl. (of which 7 folding) depicting Natives, monuments and mainy local flora.
