Rare pamphlet, attributed to J. Héroard (1551-1628), future physician of Louis XIII, to support the aspirations to the crown of the Low Countries of Louis Gonzaga, Duke of Nevers (1539-1595). This French nobleman was a fervent enemy of the Calvinists and one of the instigators of the St. Bartholomew’s Day massacre (Massacre de la Saint-Barthélemy) in 1572. The pamphlet was issued in 2 forms, one with a typographic ornament on title, and one with the Nevers coat-of-arms (as here). Ref. Pettegree FB 28782. - STC French (BL) 324. - Not in Adams, BP16.
