Fascinating early German account of travels and curiosities and one of the most famous illustrated natural history books of the 17th c., compiled by the Lübeck historian E. Francisci (1627-1694). The 1st and 2nd parts treat the natural history of the West and East Indies and their resources; the 3rd deals with the native inhabitants, their government, manners and institutions, with particular reference to China. Engr. ills: front., 61 (of 65) full-page plates (numbered 1-63 with 2 bis plates, 45 & 47, lacking pls 7, 48, 55, 58), 1 text ill., and full-page elaborate copperplate coat-of-arms of Leopold I by C.N.
