Engr., on 2 sheets, together c. 22,3 x 101,5 cm, hand-coloured (left side remargined, sm. brown stain in marg. of the upper right corner, light damp stain at joint).
Under passe-partout and frame (very sm. piece of modern paper stuck under glass in lower right corner).
Originally published separately, a large rare map on 2 sheets of the course of the Rhine in an early (first or unrecorded?) state. The map is dated 1656 and the medaillon does not yet contain a portrait, as it does in the later 1672 state. Van Ortroy lists this map (without description) as seen in J. Lelewel's "Géographie du moyen age" (1852) (vol. 1, p. cxiii) with 1636 as date (possibly erroneously?), however we did not find any copy with 1636 or 1656 as date (Hollstein: "Van Ortroy 23 mentions a map with similar captions, dated 1636, which may be an earlier state which has not been traced").
