Watercolour, 5,4 x 7,0 cm.
Framed.
Fine miniature in grisaille with red and blue accents. Charming scene with a woman with a mask. The miniature was originally in the collection of the Königliche Gemäldegalerie in Dresden (now Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister), but was sold before 1912. Correspondance with the museum has confirmed this work was not looted. It probably belonged to the same series as 2 miniatures preserved in Dresden (inv. M 75, M 76), of which the 1912 catalogue mentions they "belong to a series of 16 pictures of which only these two are extant." Attributed to Carl Gustav Klingstedt (1657-1734), of which very similar miniatures are at the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm.
Ref. Catalogue of the pictures in the Royal Gallery at Dresden, Dresden-Berlin 1912, p. 305, miniatures 75-76.
Prov. Königliche Gemäldegalerie, Dresden (label). - Sold before 1912. - Private collection, Belgium.
