Reprint of Sétier's French translation (1st ed. 1826, under the title "Relation historique et descriptive d'un séjour de vingt ans dans l'Amérique du Sud, ou Voyage en Araucanie [...]"). The original English ed. was published in 1825 in Liverpool under the title "A historical and descriptive narrative of twenty years' residence in South America". Stevenson (1787?- after 1830) arrived in Araucania (Chile) in 1804. In 1808 he became private secretary to Count Ruiz de Castilla, president of the Royal Audience of Quito, and later to Lord Thomas Cochrane, vice-admiral of the Chilean Navy. After spending twenty years in South America, he returned to England in 1824, but returned to Peru towards the end of 1825.
