4 vol., 4to: [4]-437-3, 440, 531, 536 pp. (sl. browned, some spotting and staining, pl. rather untouched).
Contemp. half sheep, marbled paper on covers, flat spines, sp. edges (corners sl. rubbed and bumped, scratches on spines, some heads and tails sl. touched, front cover vol. 2 sl. def.).
Brussels edition ill. with 188 mostly coloured lithographs (some in b/w) and one fold. table. The plates of the whales of the atlas-volume are bound in the 1st vol. Lacépède (1756-1825) was one of the most influential zoologists of his time and successor to Buffon. He completed Buffon's famous "Histoire naturelle" by publishing the parts on fishes, reptiles and cetaceans (whales, dolphins).
