Third edition (1st 1783) published a few months after the author's execution of a philosophical history of the Kingdom of Naples, in which Pagano takes position against torture and capital punishement. Pagano (1748-1799), Enlightenment thinker, founder of the Neapolitan school of law, was one of the promotors of the Parthenopean Republic. He drafted a constitution for the new republic. He was arrested after the fall of the republic and sentenced to death. With an "Elogio storico" of Pagano written by the "cittadino" Massa in first edition at end of vol. III.
