4to: [42 (of 44)] ff. (missing B1 & B4, title soiled, some disperses soiling throughout).
Later vellum spine, panel-stamped covers with gilt monogram "HH[flower tool] L" and dated 16[flower tool]78", endpapers renewed (corners rubbed).
First edition ill. with one coat of arms and 74 (of 78) oval in-text woodcuts by the Swiss-German artist J. Amman (1539-191) depicting scenes from the New Testament with varying ornamental borders and a printer's vign. on title and at the end. The Latin verses above the woodcuts and in German below allude to the relevant passages from the four Gospels. Possibly the work of the Protestant theologian Johann Bentius (1499-1577). Printed in Gothic and italics. Title in red & black.
