Latin manuscript on vellum (c. 21,8 x 20 cm, plica 1,8 cm), written in a professional hand, with large remains of seal at (single) tail.

Guy d’Avesnes (1253-1317), son of Jean I d’Avesnes, regent of Hainault, and Aleid of Holland, in 1292 was named elector of Liège. He was not confirmed as bishop of Liège, since Pope Nicholas IV died in 1294 and Pope Boniface VIII in 1295 nominated Hugues of Chalon. Guy d’Avesnes was, however, backed by Adolf, King of the Romans (1255-1298). In 1301 he was confirmed as bishop of Utrecht.
