Latin manuscript on vellum (f. 1) and paper (ff. 2-108), c. 21,5 x 14,5 cm: [107 (of 108)] ff., expertly written in brown ink, with catchword phrases at quire endings and occ. sm. annotations at bottom of some ff. (f. 108 missing, f. 107 for the larger part torn off, some minor soiling). Very good condition.
Contemp. blind-decorated calf over wood, spine with raised bands, remains of a single fore-edge catch (rubbed, front cover almost loose, spine dam., clasp and lower endpaper gone).
Apparently unrecorded 7th Latin manuscript of the Rosarium Jhesu et Mariae of the Limburg Carthusian Jacobus van Gruytrode (d. 1475), prior of the Liège Charterhouse. This work, an extensive compilation of texts by Church Fathers and a long series of spiritual writers (incl. Ruusbroec), was translated into Dutch as "Die roesenghaert lhesu ende Marie" (preserved in 8 manuscripts). Contents: f. 1r-v (vellum) with a "Prologus" (curiously not starting with the usual incipit "Fasciculus myrrhe"); ff. 2r-13r "Deuote or[ati]o[n]es dicende ante & post celebracionem misse"; ff. 13v-15r blank; ff. 16r-20r similar texts; ff. 20v-107 (-108) "Rosarium ihesu et marie" ("Cum prologo quo in primo folio libri huius"). Fragment of an early (12th c.?) liturgical manuscript as front endpaper (almost loose).
