4to, 2 parts in 1 vol.: 303, 215-[1 bl.] ff. (last blank in part I lacking, soiling and some staining, one larger stain in lower margin of part II, small tears in f. clviii of 2d part).

Mod. half pigskin, red paper boards, flat spine with blind fillets, blue marbled edges. Good copy.

Rare Venice edition of the translation of Plutarch's "Lives" (of famous Greeks & Romans) by Battista Alessandro Jaconello, a native of Riete, Italian humanist in the service of the Spanish kingdom of Naples. Woodcut illustrations: titles within different ornamented borders (2nd dotted), 1 historiated initial, 2 endpieces (fig. the portrait of Andrea Gritti, 77th Doge of Venice), 51 ills in text. Followed after a blank leaf with the life of Marcus Brutus illustrated with 1 woodcut (16 ff.; dampstained, 2nd f. torn without lack). Printed in italics, in 2 cols. 2nd title in red & black. Ref.
