First edition of the French translation by Demeunier (1751-1814) of the hugely successful book "A tour through Sicily and Malta. In a series of letters to William Beckford" by Brydone (1743-1818), which earned its author admission to the Royal Society. His observations of lava flows made him think that the Earth was much older than previously had been thought. Brydone had travelled with William Beckford and other companions. The quality of his vivid and accurate descriptions ensured the success of his work.
