Beschrijving lot
Woodcut, 26,9 x 26,8 cm, laid paper, on banderoles "RETHORICA" and "BARBARA." (flattened fold, few creases, few sm. tears, few holes).
Rare and curious woodcut.
Strapwork cartouche with Rhetorica, the tower of St Barbara and the arms of Kortrijk. At centre a rebus (i.e. God, a foot, a viola and two fools), corresponding with the motto of the "Barbaristen": "Godt voedt veel sotten" (God feeds many fools).
