19th-c. binding by Charles Capé: olive-brown morocco, double fillet around the boards, central gilt laurel crown, gilt-tooled spine with raised bands, inner dentelle, a.e.g. (corners very sl. rubbed).

Edition printed in italic type, except some parts in roman type (prelims, texts in Latin, "La défense et illustration de la langue françoise", "Lettres du mesme auteur, au sieur Iean de Morel Ambrunois"). With a supplementary sonnet in original edition, signed "Ieh. Chrestien Provençal", attributed by Abbé Goujet to the Provencal poetess Dauphine des Jardins.The book was edited on the initiative of the lawyer and poet Guillaume Aubert (1534-1597), who signs the epistle "Au Roy". He was a friend of Du Bellay and the co-editor, with Frédéric Morel, of the famous collective edition of 1569. Two printer's marks with initials "PD", belonging to the printer (unidentified) who worked for Loyselet. Ref.
