Second French edition of one of the best 18th-c. introductions to Newtonian physics by the Dutch scientist van Musschenbroek (1692-1761) loaded with experiments and problems. Ill. with an engr. front. portrait and 34 engr. fold. or double-page plates a.o. the "Tabula totius orbis terrarum". The first part deals with general mechanics, hydrostatics, electricity, and magnetism, the second part is devoted to optics, acoustics, comets and winds.
