Rather rare second rev. and corr. edition (1st 1714) by the English philosopher and essayist A. Collins (1676-1729) translated by Henri Scheurleer et Jean Rousset de Missy. Collins was notable for being one of the early proponents of Deism in Great Britain and his "A discours of freethinking" was largely treated as a plea for that Deism. The work caused a stir in the church world and elicited many indignant responses to what was seen as an apology for atheism and outrageous criticism of the church. Under false address, but with the same typeface material than that of the 1st ed. This ed. probably publ. in the Netherlands, according to typogr. material in The Hague.
