Unrecorded Middelburg issue of the 1655 Dutch edition (1st Dordrecht 1592) of the complete works of the French royal surgeon A. Paré (1517-1590). Translated by Carel Baten (Ghent ca. 1540-ca. 1617 Amsterdam), physician to the city of Dordrecht 1588-1601. Four issues of the 1655 ed. are described by Doe: by J.F. Stam at Amsterdam, P. van Waesberge at Rotterdam, J. Pick at Vlissingen and Z. Rooman at Middelburg. They are, just as our issue, page-for-page reprints of the 1649 edition, with the device of its Amsterdam printer J.J. Schipper on title. Illustrated with more than 300 woodcuts figuring skeletons, body parts and organs, animals, distillation systems, instruments, etc. At the end his "Apologie ende tractaet inhoudende de reysen die hy in diversche plaetsen ghedaen heeft". Nice title in red and black, with woodcut mark. Printed in 2 col., in Gothic type.
