Beschrijving lot
Hand-coloured etching, 41,2 x 53,1 cm, laid paper, at top centre: "FLORAES GECKS-KAP / Afbeeldinge van't wonderlijcke Iaer van 1637 doen d'eene Geck d'ander uytbroeyde, / de Luy Rijck sonder goet, en Wijs sonder verstant waeren.", Dutch text in lower margin (few flattened folds, few spots, 2 holes at upper corners).
Good impression with margins.
Large satirical print mocking the people involved in the tulip mania as fools that were rich without goods and wise without reason. At centre people buying and selling tulip bulbs in a large fool's cap, which is called "Inde 2 sotte bollen". At left the devil waiting with an hourglass. Most recently attributed to Pieter Nolpe (ca. 1613-1652). Later impression without address, from "Het groote tafereel der Dwaasheid".
