In a gilt frame (not studied outside frame).

Only state of this plate, which is according to Albert Croquez "a pleasant pastiche in the manner of Claude Lorrain". With this print Ensor returns to the favourite themes of the 17th-c. Flemish masters. Despite his revolutionary streak, Ensor was very respectful towards the old masters and often took their work as a model. The mill shown here was at Oudenburg, not far from Ostend.
