First and only edition of this Dutch translation ("beschreeven op een vryen en vrolyken trant") by the Dutch painter and writer Jan Campo Weyerman (Charleroi 1677-1747). Engr. ills: title vign. and 31 beautiful full-page plates with strong and clear impressions, engr. by Fokke, Picart, van Schley and Tanjé after the French painter Coypel (1694-1752). The famous story is accompanied by a biography of Cervantes and poetical explanations of each of the pls. De Hondt also published a French ed. with the same ills in the same year, both eds appearing in 4to and folio. The pls were also used for the Liège folio ed. of 1776. Title in red and black.
