Sanguine pencil, 20,5 x 29,4 cm (strengthened with thin Japanese paper).
Missing drawing of the set "The four seasons" (?) kept in Coburg, Kunstsammlungen der Vest Coburg, inv. Z 2648, 2680, 2652: "Spring", "Summer" and "Fall" are rough drawings with sanguine pencil, with same dimensions (+/- 21 x 30 cm) and same direction as our drawing. They were made after Lairesse's engravings (printed by Nicolaus Visscher) of his own paintings for a ceiling. "Winter" [Hiems] is symbolised by god Aeolus, holding a branch without leaves. He is surrounded by three Months: one holds a cornucopia or horn of abundance, another has a fur hat on the head and the last breath on his hands to warm them. Ref. Roy, Alain.- Gérard de Lairesse (1640-1711). Paris, Arthena, 1992, p. 463-464, G. 83-G86 (espec. G. 86) & P. 85-89 ("copies assez sèches d'après les gravures (dans le même sens)").
