Engraving, 18,2 x 22,1 cm, laid paper with watermark (crowned shield), signed at bottom left: "Theodor. Bernard inv." and centre: "DC.", title in upper margin, numbered 4 and Latin text in lower margin (few sm. brown stains, mostly marginal, flattened vertical fold at centre).
With margins.
Copy in reverse by Dominicus Custos (ca. 1559-1615) after the engraving by Johannes Sadeler after Dirck Barendsz. (cf. Hollstein XXI.165.502). Part of a series on the four seasons that also represents the four ages. The old man is suffering from gout. He is trying to relieve the pain by warming his swollen foot at the fireplace. The cup in his hand and the barrels behind him make clear he got his condition from drinking.
