The Marshal comments on the movements of the enemy troops: "[...] comme se ne sont point des corps je presume que se nait que pour renforser les differantes garnison toud ulon de la meusse [tout du long de la Meuse] [...]. Il me semble sependant que les ennemis sont determines a rester derriere mastric [Maastricht]". Indeed, the latter had withdrawn after their defeat at Lawfeld on 2 July 1747 and prevented the Marshal of Saxony from directly invading Maastricht, which only fell on 7 May 1748.
