Contemp. marbled calf, small gilt dentelle and central coat of arms on boards, gilt orn. flat spine, green title label, marbled edges (rubbed, sm. scar on upper board, cracked spine with sm. loss, lower turn-in missing, bumped corners). Large margins copy.
Re-edition of this very popular collection of 16 (six more than in the 1st ed., Toulouse, 1706) pastoral poems in Latin by the Jesuit Jacques Vanière (1664-1739), known as "the Virgil of France". This celebration of the work and pleasures of country life (choice and purchase of a farm, care of the herds and trees, the vegetable garden, the vineyard, the wine, the dovecote, etc.) is ill. with 1 front. by Chovin and 16 pl. (unsigned). Title printed in red and black.
