19th-c. gilt-tooled dark brown morocco, covers with central coat of arms, gilt double ruled border and corner ornaments, gilt spine, a.e.g., gilt inside dentelles, marbled endpapers (sl. rubbed). Very good copy.
Treatise on biblical Hebrew by the Saumur Calvinist theologian L. Cappel (1585-1658), written against a similar work (1643) by the Basel Hebraist Johann Buxtorf (1564-1629). It also contains a defense of Scaliger’s views on the last Supper (compared to the Jewish Passover), as well as an exposition of the Zohar commentary on Genesis 2:4-6.
