Contemp. marbled calf (corners bumped, 1 def.), front covers with gilt supralibros, gilt spines with 5 raised bands (a few tiny wormholes), red edges. Nice set.
First Paris ed. of the French translation of the famous and unfortunate expedition around the world made in 3 years and 9 months by Anson, first publ. in 1748. With descriptions on the island of Madeira, Brazil, port St. Julian, Cape Horn, the island of Juan Fernandes, the taking of Paita, the arrival at Quibo, the coast of Mexico, Macao, etc. Engr. ill. (compl.): 1 folding world map and 34 folding plates showing views of seacoasts, sea battles, a pair of sea lions, Chinese vessels and 14 maps or plans, i.a.
