Very rare devotional work by J.F. Lumnius (1533-1602), priest of the Antwerp beguinage. This book, with the Privilege dated 2 May 1589, may well be one of the last works published by Chr. Plantin (d. 1 July 1589). The treatise gives some reflections about how man, as image of God, can renew his mind and liberate his heart and senses from sin, with many examples from the Bible. Woodcut mark on title. Gothic type. The present copy has an additional leaf [L1] not mentioned by Voet with the "Approbatio" of 6 April 1589 and a list of errata. Ref. Voet (Plantin Press) 1613. - BT 2010. - BCNI 4046. - Pettegree NB 19881. - Not in Adams, Bn-Opale plus, STC Dutch (BL). Prov. Long cont. annotations on *8v and at t.-p. - Libr. stamp (partly erased).
