Beschrijving lot

8vo: 419 [= 423]-[1] pp. (some minor marg. soiling or spotting, single wormhole in bl. inner margin, upper margin of title strengthened).

18th-c. gilt and blind-stamped calf, covers with wide blind border decorated with frames of double gilt rules, gilt spine with 4 raised bands, gilt inside ornamental border, marbled edges (sl. rubbed at joints, head and tail). Good copy.

Froben’s 3rd repr. of his 1516 ed. A "Sammelband" with 4 humanist text editions collected by Beatus Rhenanus: Seneca’s Ludus de morte Claudii Caesaris (with notes by Rhenanus), Synesius Cyrenensis’ De laudibus calvitii, Joanne Phrea Britanno interprete (with notes by Rhenanus), Erasmus’ famous Praise of Folly (with the commentary by Gerard Listrius), followed by his apology addressed to the Leuven humanist theologian Martinus Dorpius. Title within elborate woodcut border (dated "MDXX"). Woodcut mark at the end. Main text in roman, marginal notes in italics.
